MIA ANIMATION CONFERENCE & FESTIVAL will be holding a Pitching Contest as part of its Animation Festival. All creators are encouraged to submit their projects for consideration. The top submissions in both categories will be invited to pitch their idea in person to a panel of animation industry experts and professionals.

1. Animation for Television and Web Series - targeting kids (any audience 13 and under)
2. Animation for Television and Web Series - targeting adults (any audience 14 and up)
FINALIST PITCHES:
The top entries from each category (roughly five entrants from each, but the panel reserves the right to select any number) will be selected as Finalists. Selected Finalists will be notified by August 15, 2012. Finalists will be invited to pitch their projects in person to a panel of industry experts at MIA ANIMATION. No travel expenses will be covered.
In person pitches can be in any form, but cannot take more than Five (5) minutes. There will be a question and answer time with the panel at the end of the five minute initial presentation. Finalists will be contacted during the summer and can request A/V equipment or display space for pitch materials, but the entrant is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all necessary technical or other equipment is present and working properly.

When Barbara Stein co-founded the Actors’ Playhouse at a suburban strip mall in Kendall, she had no idea that it would grow to become one of South Florida’s premiere theaters – bringing in acts from experienced Broadway legends to up-and-coming playwrights.
Now housed at the Miracle Theater in Coral Gables, the Playhouse brings in more than 150,000 attendees a year and spurs area nightlife.
“The city was wise, and we had a great opportunity,” Ms. Stein said. “They knew of our reputation artistically. They knew of the people behind the organization and the community leaders. They knew that they could count on everything being followed through, which is the greatest respect we could have wanted.”
As executive producing director, Ms. Stein works to pull funds and audiences to the Playhouse. With the theater’s annual operating budget and in-kind donations totaling $4 million, Ms. Stein said that she is working to ensure that future generations enjoy the historic cultural facility.
“We belong to the community,” she said. “We ask from the community. We give back to the community and we want to be there for the community forever.”

The Sixth Annual Tribeca Film Festival presented the World Premiere of The Third Wave, an Alison Thompson Documentary and Morgan Spurlock Production, based on the experiences of four aid workers in aftermath of the December 2004 Tsunami that decimated Sri Lanka and other countries bordering the Indian Ocean.
Allison Thompson's memoir, The Third Wave: A Volunteer Story (Spiegel & Grau), begins with the filmmaker living in New York City in 2004, when she heard the news of the massive tsunami that has devastated Indonesia. With $300 in cash, some basic medical supplies, and a vague idea that she’d go wherever she was needed, Thompson headed to Sri Lanka. Intending to stay for two weeks, she ended up staying for fourteen months, and, in the process, changing her life.
