Republican candidate Adam Hasner joins us on the program to discuss key issues impacting Florida’s 22nd congressional district. Democrat Lois Frankel, the other candidate in this race, did not accept our invitation to attend.
[Air Date: 10/10/2012]
Lois Frankel and Adam Hasner, two former state legislators battling for Congress, will share the podium when they address the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches Sept. 24.
Newspapers have pegged the race for Congressional Dist. 22 one of the hottest in the nation because the outcome will help determine which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives after November. The district covers portions of Palm Beach and Broward counties and is an open seat with no incumbent after U.S. Rep. Allen West decided to run instead in a more friendly district covering parts of northern Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties.
The program will be held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. It will not be a debate. Republican Hasner and Democrat Frankel will each be given 10 minutes to lay out their platforms. Await receipt of your electronic or standard newsletter prior to ordering tickets.
Hasner, a Boca Raton attorney, was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2002 serving the coastal communities of Palm Beach and Broward counties. In 2007, he was selected as Majority Leader, a post he held until leaving office in 2010.
Frankel served eight years as West Palm Beach mayor beginning in 2003 and oversaw revitalization of the downtown. Prior to that, she served 14 years in the state legislature.

Newly-elected U.S. Rep. Allen West, who rode the wave of anti-government sentiments into office in November, addressed the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches on March 18, 2011.
West, a Republican, defeated incumbent U.S. Rep. Ron Klein and represents District 22 encompassing parts of Palm Beach and Broward counties. He is the second African-American Republican congressman elected since 1876.
Before retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, West served as a Field Artillery Officer in several combat zones: Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and in Afghanistan. He is the third of four generations of military servicemen in his family.
“I have traded in my camouflage uniform for a suit,” West said. “But the commitment to protect the people of the United States is still my mission.”
West received his Bachelors degree from the University of Tennessee and Masters degree from Kansas State University, both in political science. He also holds a Masters of Military Arts and Sciences from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer College in political theory and military operations.
During the same March 18 program, the Forum Club will honor former U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw with its Exemplary Elected Officials Award given to former elected officials who have made outstanding contributions to their community. Shaw served in Congress, in the same district West now represents, for 25 years.
