With more than 25 years as a licensed real estate broker, John Dohm was elected earlier this year as the 2012 president of the Realtors Commercial Alliance of Miami.
In this role he hopes to get the different real estate organizations in South Florida to promote Miami as a place to live and do business. He said he wants to work with different professional groups for the common good of the industry.
“We would like to present Miami as a global location for businesses to put their office, for them to build,” he said. “Part of that would be pointing out Miami’s global nature. The programs would probably focus on the new Miami Intermodal Center, the ability to get from the airport to downtown – where people and business is concentrated.”
Mr. Dohm is one of fewer than 700 people in the world to hold both the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors and the Certified Commercial Institute designations. He’s also gotten numerous financial certifications from his days working in securities.
Mr. Dohm said that despite the fact that Miami-Dade County has a strong industrial market with a low vacancy rate, many buildings in the county are dated and can’t accommodate the needs of modern commerce.
He expects that the work being done to Port Miami and the Miami International Airport will encourage more companies to ship goods directly to South Florida, boosting the local economy and further strengthening the industrial market.
Mr. Dohm discussed his goals as the president of the Realtors Commercial Alliance of Miami with Miami Today staff writer Patricia Hoyos in his Miami Gardens office.
