After being incorporated on June 24, 2003, almost a decade later Doral is a thriving city that is poised for even more growth. The City of Doral has operated under the mayor-council-manager form of government since its incorporation and the new city elected Luigi Boria as their second mayor last year.
The first mayor of Doral, Juan Carlos Bermudez, spent two terms at the helm of the city and was not able to run again due to reaching his term limit.
Mr. Boria vied for the role of mayor against Frank Bolaños and Pete Cabrera, which eventually led to a run-off election between Mr. Boria and Mr. Bolaños that Mr. Boria won.
In 1983, Mr. Boria opened TMC – The Magic Computer in Caracas, and in 1989 the Boria family moved to the US and settled in Doral. They have resided in Doral ever since, and Mr. Boria said he has no plans of moving. Upon relocating to the US, Mr. Boria expanded his business and now employs more than 40 people.
Mayor Boria said he decided to enter the world of politics to help people. He served as a Doral City councilmember prior to running for the mayor’s office.
Mr. Boria took time out of his busy schedule to meet with reporter Laura Stace. He shared with her his vision for Doral under his leadership
