AT THE DEC. 9 RECEPTION AT MUSEUM OF ART | FORT LAUDERDALE TO CELEBRATE OPENING OF POP ARTIST CHARLES FAZZINO’S EXHIBITION “FACES OF FORT LAUDERDALE”


The opening of acclaimed 3-D Pop Artist Charles Fazzino’s exhibition “Faces of Fort Lauderdale” and the unveiling of the Official 2011 City of Fort Lauderdale Centennial Celebration Commemorative Painting highlighted the evening. The exhibition celebrates the Centennial Celebration and Charles Fazzino’s role as the Official Centennial Artist. The 2010 Winterfest Boat Parade Poster, which Fazzino created as Official Artist, will also be on display. 


“Faces of Fort Lauderdale” will be on view at the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale from Dec. 10, 2010-Jan. 5, 2011. It includes Fazzino’s most recent work, which both captures and celebrates the history of Fort Lauderdale. Works within the exhibition are:

 

·         “Trash Can History,” a sculpture that boldly illustrates the tone of the 1950s in the city, expressed through discarded items hastily left in a beach trash receptacle in the face of an oncoming hurricane

·         “Drive-In Fort Lauderdale,” a large-scale sculptural relief representing a drive-in movie theatre in 1960s Fort Lauderdale

·         “The Fort Lauderdale Strip,” a large-scale sculptural relief representing Fort Lauderdale Beach during the 1980s

·         “Fort Lauderdale Today,” a large, three-dimensional painted canvas sculpture representing present-day Fort Lauderdale

·         “Faces of Fort Lauderdale,” a collection of 10 multi-layered Plexiglas sculptures that tell the stories of everyday people, decade-by-decade, who made Fort Lauderdale what it is today.

 

Charles Fazzino has become well-known for the frenetic energy, bright colors, and great detail that infuse his enormously popular 3-D work. During his 30-year career, he has become acclaimed throughout the US, Europe and Asia for his 3-D pop art renderings. He has painted 11 Super Bowls for the National Football League, six All-Star Games for Major League Baseball, five Daytime Emmy Award ceremonies, two FIFA World Cup tournaments, the GRAMMY Awards, and is the official artist for the 2009 and 2010 President’s Council on Physical Fitness and The President’s Challenge. Fazzino is the Official Artist for the upcoming Super Bowl XLV.
